Wheels for the Modern Fashionista

Fashion is a funny thingindividual, diverse, and ultimately subject to much commentary, and the fashionista in me wouldn’t have it any other way. Whether you consider yourself on the hip side of fashion trends, a trendsetter, or clueless, we all know what we like. When it comes to our wheels, this is equally true. The vehicle we choose can become an extension of our fashion sense.

Consider the Honda Accord Hybrid. It may not be the first hybrid vehicle with excellent fuel economy that comes to mind, but it’s one of the more stylish and luxurious. It has futuristic features like a right lane camera that helps you see right-hand-side blind spot in the large navigation screen in the dash. It also gives you confidence with plenty of power on tap, while still saving your wallet at the pump.

41-OutFront-09.03If you like the luxury, but want a little more capability when the weather turns south, maybe you want to consider the 2015 Subaru Legacy. Legendary all-wheel drive, a fresh look inside and out, and a powerful boxer engine that harkens back to rally champions make this vehicle a solid contender in Colorado — especially for the outdoorsy type.

More into high performance? Want to make a statement when you pull up? The 2015 Subaru WRX STI will fit that bill. Opt for the quintessential Rally Blue with gold wheels and people will notice you rumbling. This isn’t a fashion statement for the faint of heart; the STI will shake, rattle, and roll with a competition suspension, and throw you back in your seat when you stuff your foot to the floor. And even with its car-level ground clearance, there isn’t a climate you can’t conquer.

When you need more clearance and capabilities off-road, the “in-crowd” heads over to Land Rover. The oldest name in off-road luxury, we Coloradans love our Rovers. Whether you want the more traditional steel-framed LR4 or the newly redesigned Range Rover Sport with its aluminum chassis design, these vehicles go anywhere in first-class style. The LR4 can get you a great off-roader with less money out of pocket, while the Range Rover Sport in its new skin tips the scales at well over $80K.

We can’t look at fashion without considering sports cars. The 2014 Corvette Stingray is a real head turner, and finally has an interior to compete with the likes of BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. The base Stingray with the Z51 competition package comes complete with a carbon fiber targa top, screaming yellow paint, exhaust that sets off car alarms and speeds that are just ridiculous. Crowds gather around any Stingray.

Then there is the more modest and cute angle — yes, I mean the Miata with all its stereotypes. Opt for the hardtop Grand Touring model and get all the luxuries you need with none of the soft-top hassles. Its renowned “zoom-zoom” speed, handling, and short-throw gear box leaves little wonder why it is one of the best-selling and highest-volume sports cars on the market. And if you like the current model, get it before it’s gone — the new redesign unveils this fall.

Like our clothes, vehicles have a wide array of fashions and these amazing vehicles are just the tip of the steering column. So make sure — like the style you wear — the style you drive fits you to a T.
