One Colorado Announces Garrett Royer as New Deputy Director

Garrett Royer

One Colorado, the state’s leading advocacy organization dedicated to advancing equality for LGBTQ Coloradans and their families, announced their own Garrett Royer has moved into the role of deputy director, according to a release from the organization. He previously served as One Colorado’s Denver metro field organizer and then as the development manager.

“Garrett has a long-standing passion for advocacy and activism in Colorado and empowering communities through civic engagement,” One Colorado says. “Like many on the One Colorado team, he identifies as LGBTQ+ and found his place in advocacy through his identity and his interest in community organizing during the 2012 Obama Campaign.”

Royer was born and raised in Denver and has spent most of his life in Colorado. He has his BA in political science from the University of Northern Colorado. One Colorado notes, during his years in community organizing, political advocacy, and achieving One Colorado’s goals toward LGBTQ equality, Royer has found a passion for approaching social justice through a community-informed and intentional lens.

One Colorado fits well into those aims, as an organization that advocates for LGBTQ people in the state through lobbying the General Assembly, executive branch, and local governments on issues like safe schools, transgender equality, relationship recognition, and LGBTQ health and human services. The organization works to change the hearts and minds of all Coloradans in regard to LGBTQ issues, working to make Colorado a fair and just state and pushing legislators to work toward equality for all.

As an element of these goals, One Colorado holds events to help reach the community and honor those outside the organization who help to do similar work for LGBTQ people. The organization is gearing up to host its signature fundraising event, The Ally Awards, as an in-person and online event Friday, November 12 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Denver.

When he isn’t working, Royer enjoys spending time with his fiancé, Nick, and their dog, Bernie. He enjoys cooking and soaking up time in the Colorado mountains as much as possible.

The team here at OFM congratulates Garrett Royer on the new leadership role and thanks the entire time at One Colorado for the work they do within our community and for LGBTQ Coloradans.
