Hedwig and The Angry Inch Coming to Denver

The popular show Hedwig and the Angry Inch will be presenting itself to Denver coming this summer. This is one of the most popular performances of a life time and follows a very interesting backstory.

Hedwig, who was born with the name Hansel, was an East German boy who lived an impoverished life with his mom. After throwing his father out upon finding out about the sexual abuse Hedwig endured from him, they went on to venture out on life on their own.

Following in the footsteps of many Easter Germans who wanted more culture in their lives, Hedwig fell in love with ’70’s American Rock. One day, after a long afternoon of school, Hansel bumps into a American man named Luther. Luther and Hansel begin a romantic relationship; however, Luther thinks that Hansel is a girl. When the time comes to return back to the United States, Luther wants to marry Hansel, but in order to have the ability to do so, Luther and Hansels mother force him to undergo a gender reassignment surgery.

During Hansel’s gender reassignment, Hansel becomes Hedwig. However, her genitals become botched during surgery; creating the name the angry inch. And after this,, Luther leaves her once they get to America, prompting Hedwig to venture out and experience life on her own.

After many odd jobs, Hedwig lands a babysitting job for an army commander. There, she goes on to fall in love with the oldest son named Tommy. However, do to his beliefs, he rejects Hedwig and her gender transition and leaves her, but still goes on to steal her music.

Frustrated with the rejection and the silencing of her own art, Hedwig forms the band Hedwig and The Angry Inch as a way to get back at Tommy and tarnish his reputation and career.

Hedwig and The Angry Inch will perform at Herman’s Hideaway for an 11-show spin from August 1 to 17. Get more information here.
