The evening started as a somber reminder of those that we have lost this year. It continued with what the trans community has to endure on a daily process. We heard a local trans singer, Markie Arendelle (she/her), who sang “The Gospel,” by Panic! At the Disco. The song brought tears to many eyes.

After the song, the protesters lined up to march to the capitol building and read the names of those lost, and to listen to local leaders in our community talk about what they are doing to help with trans rights.

Walking down Colfax avenue, you could hear people honking their horns and flashing lights as march goers chanted “Black, white, gay, straight, love does not discriminate!” “What do we want? TRANS RIGHTS! When do we want it? RIGHT NOW!”

The night ended with the reading of 46 names of trans people we lost this year throughout the nation. The crowd was silent, and you could feel the sadness. After the reading, they closed out the night with a moment of silence.
