Colorado Ballet Opens 2023-2024 Season with ‘Swan Lake’

Colorado Ballet Swan Lake

The Colorado Ballet will open its 2023-2024 season this autumn with Swan Lake on October 6 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. One of the most recognizable ballets, Swan Lake will run through October 15 with eight performances over the two-week span.

The Colorado Ballet is eager to kick off its season with the beloved ballet and showcase the brilliance of its talented cast, who will be performing choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with additional choreography done by Ballet Master Sandra Brown, Amanda McKerrow, and John Gardner.

Artistic Director Gil Boggs calls Swan Lake “(…) a monumental feat of artistic excellence and technical ability,” and urges audiences not to miss the enchanting performances, saying, “When you first watch the corps of 27 swans enter the stage, dancing perfectly in sync with one another and Tchaikovsky’s iconic music, it’ll take your breath away—There’s nothing quite like it.”

Swan Lake tells the tale of Odette, a young woman who, alongside her companions, is cursed to roam the Earth as a swan. The romantic Prince Seigfried seeks to break Odette’s curse but must contend with the villainous Baron von Rothbart and his daughter Odile. Is “true love” enough to conquer the forces of evil? That’s the question asked by this classically tragic romance, and audiences are invited to experience what it feels like to contend with that question. Set against the backdrop of a moonlit lake, Swan Lake is a ballet that holds a timeless appeal in its artistry and beauty.

Tickets for Swan Lake range from $40 to $175 and can be purchased at coloradobalet.org or via Patron Services at 303-339-1637.
