Trans Military Ban getting Discussed in Washington

The White House and Pentagon are definitely moving forward with some discussion of the trans military ban. However, at least for now, they are maintaining that a Tweet is not enough grounds to take formal action.

“We have conversations back and forth all the time with the White House in a variety of channels and those conversations are starting to happen on the issue,” Navy Captain Jeff Davis told reporters. “We will await formal direction and … once we get that we would provide implementing guidance and implement accordingly. But that’s not happened yet.”

This reflects the same sentiments expressed in a statement from General Joseph F. Dunford Jr., the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, when he remarked that “the policy on who is allowed to serve would not change until the White House sends the Defense Department new rules and the secretary of defense issues new guidelines.”

So far, it appears that what the American public has been angrily exclaiming still rings true. The president cannot change public policy with something as simple as a Tweet, no matter the issue in question. If Trump is to make good on his Tweeted claim, he will need to go through the proper channels.
