South Carolina’s Same-Sex Marriage Ban Ruled Unconstitutional

U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel ruled the same-sex marriage ban in South Carolina unconstitutional Wednesday.

Judge Gergel issued a stay, so same-sex marriage cannot begin immediately. The stay expires on Nov. 20, but the decision is expected to be appealed by South Carolina’s Attorney General, Alan Wilson, and Governor, Nikki Haley (R).
