Lesbians Got Talent!

By Josefina (Pita) Tuason

The spotlights will shine once again on talented lesbians when Lesbians Got Talent! returns for a third year on Saturday, October 11. The event will be held at 7pm at the Montview Presbyterian Church at 1980 Dahlia Street in Denver.

Auditions for the show will be held on Thursday, August 28, from 6:30 to 8:30, and on Sunday, September 7, from 2:30 to 4:30. Interested performers may sign up to audition by going to LesbiansGotTalent.com. The crème de la crème from the auditions will go on to delight the audience at this year’s event on October 11.

lesbianstalentPresented in support of the GLBT Center of Colorado, Lesbians Got Talent! encourages acts in all genres of performance art, music, dance, and unique numbers. Past performances have included musical numbers by individuals and groups (vocal and instrumental), magic, stand-up comedy, dance, poetry, a burlesque parody, rap, drag king, and a one-woman skit.

Unlike most “Got Talent” shows, Lesbians Got Talent! is not a competition — it’s simply a showcase of performances and a chance for lesbian performers to share their talents. The event has proven to be a great source of enjoyment for performers and showgoers alike. Past performer Kip Tarby commented, “LGT is a great opportunity to try out new ideas in music, comedy, and performance art. To perform for a supportive and welcoming community was a wonderful experience.”

The show is expected to sell out again this year, as it has the first two. Ticket prices remain at $10 in advance and $15 at the door, if they’re still available the day of the event. The show has delighted audiences of all ages. Says Claire Cody, a regular attendee, “What a great night out … a fun time with or without a date!” Lesbians Got Talent! is an excellent value in live entertainment for the community, lesbians or otherwise.

In the past, tickets for the show were available for purchase mostly at social events including First Friday at Tracks. This year, tickets are more easily available. Online purchase and PayPal have been added as ticketing options for the event.
