CREATING CHANGE: The 27th Annual National Conference on LGBTQ Equality Is Coming To Denver

Nathan Frey, Contributor

The momentum in LGBTQ equality is sweeping the nation with state after state falling like dominoes in support of marriage equality. Its such an exciting time for the equal rights movement and it’s even more exciting to announce that Denver will host the 27th Annual National Conference on LGBTQ Equality: Creating Change. Organized by the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, the nations oldest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) advocacy organization, the conference will take place February 4-8, 2015 at the Sheraton Denver. This massive five-day event will feature more than 350 workshops and trainings focusing on issues including anti-transgender violence, ending the HIV/AIDS epidemic, creating safer schools, and building alliances with pro-LGBTQ allies and faith-based organizations.

The pace of change for the LBGTQ community is accelerating, and much of the progress weve been able to accomplish is a direct result of the education and organizing that occurs at Creating Change each year, says Sue Hyde, director of Creating Change. At next years conference, we will continue this work to secure our overarching goal of full equality, social justice, and dignity for LGBTQ people in the United States.

Since its inception 26 years ago, more than 44,000 people have attended Creating Change to learn, grow, and expand their skills and confidence to create change in their communities, their states, this country, and the world. By offering four plenary, or open sessions, and by bringing together LGBTQ equality movement pioneers and emerging leaders from diverse communities across the country and elsewhere in the world, this conference is set to be the pre-eminent political leadership and skills-building conference for the LGBTQ equality movement.

Lets not forget how important it is to have corporate sponsors and allies. With their help we can spread awareness and equality throughout the business community. Previous sponsors of this event include Southwest Airlines, Office Depot, Wells Fargo, Planned Parenthood, and AARP. There are still sponsorship opportunities available, for more information contact David Alexander via email at dalexander@theTaskForce.org.

The wave of change has been swelling for decades and is finally beginning to crest. You can be part of a remarkable time in our history as we join together in compassion and helped knowledge conquer fear.
