Countries With Anti-Gay Laws may be Banned From Hosting Olympics

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) recently implemented new non-discrimination rules, expanding the scope of Principle 6 of the Olympic Charter. Principle 6’s original language stated, “Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.”

With sexual orientation language added, any country with anti-LGBT laws will become ineligible to host the games.

The IOC came under fire during the 2014 Sochi Olympics, amidst Russia’s anti-gay propaganda laws, spurring international debate. [H/T GayStarNews]
