America’s First Bisexual Governor?!

America’s First Bisexual Governor?!

Did you know that in less than a week America will have its first openly bisexual governor? Yeah, it’s true. Word on the street is that after the resignation of current Oregon governor, John Kitzhaber, the Oregon Secretary of State, Kate Brown will be taking his place — making her the first openly bisexual governor in American history.

After marrying her husband in 2007, Kate came out as a bisexual in an essay for “Out and Elected in the USA,” stating that “Some days I feel like I have a foot in both worlds, yet never really belonging to either.” But coming out as only bisexual had its challenges. Her family told her, “it would be much easier for us if you were lesbian.” And other’s only referred to her as “half-queer.”

Either way, Kate’s appointment adds one more point for our team. Denis Dison from the Victory Fund believes she will make the LGBT community proud, and not only that but Oregonians, too. He then went on to describe her as “a dedicated, passionate, and impressive public servant who’s ready for this challenge.”

Well Kate, it seems you’ve got quite the road ahead of you. And we’ll be waving our flag of support way over here in Colorado — unless you do something stupid, then we’re done.
