The Search for Ari Harms aka Simon Paul Continues

OFM is extremely saddened to report that Ari Harms, who performs under the stage name Simon Paul has been reported missing by the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Harms was last seen entering the Colorado River at Pioneer Park using an inflatable kayak on Sunday, May 28. The sheriff’s office was notified of the situation at about 1:52 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The campground host reported that a vehicle remained at a campsite while the camper at the site should have already checked out and left.

Unfortunately, due to the area’s dangerous conditions, officials are not allowing volunteers to aid in the search efforts. The search for Harms continues and has included short intermittent closures of Highway 40 in Byers Canyon from Hot Sulphur Springs to Beaver Creek Road (County Road 50). The Sheriff’s office along with Grand County Emergency Medical Services have also combed the Colorado River and utilized aircraft in the search.

Due to recent influxes of rain and snow melt, Colorado waterways are even more turbulent than usual. Those looking to enter Colorado waterways like the Colorado River are advised to use extreme caution and always wear a life preserver. The safest way to travel many of Colorado’s rivers is in a whitewater raft with a guided tour.

Harms is a local drag performer and an integral part of the LGBTQ community. He has been featured as a model in previous photo shoots with OFM including our most recent Meow Wolf “Gayborhood” series. Harms frequently performs in Denver and Colorado Springs, and at one point had his own Doctor Who-themed show at LUCID. We sincerely hope Harms is found soon and returned unharmed to his community.

“Ari always sees the best in us, even if no one else can, and we cannot ourselves. Ari always finds a way to forgive and works towards helping others understand. Ari would never give up on any of us, and we will not give up on him!” writes friend Joe Salas on Facebook.

Any information that would aid in the search for Harms should be reported directly to the Sheriff’s office: 970-725-3311.
