The Greeting Committee Release a New Song and Music Video

The Greeting Committee

LGBTQ+ indie rock band The Greeting Committee release a new song “Popmoneyhits” alongside the accompanying music video.

The Greeting Committee is an indie-rock band from Kansas City composed of vocalist Addie Sartino, guitarist Brandon Yangmi, drummer Austin Fraser, and bassist Pierce Turcotte. The group released its first EP in 2015, and has since put out two striking full-length albums, This Is It and Dandelion

Lead vocalist Addie Sartino is an openly queer woman who believes that songs such as “Ada” and “Elise” reflect her life. Sartino told Rookie that she is “a queer frontwoman” who “has come a long way in the way (she) wears her pride.” Queer music listeners appreciate musicians who have an identity in common, both due to inspiration and representation. Though Sartino cares about being a good role model for queer people, she makes it clear that she is so much more than her sexuality. This is apparent in her songwriting which encapsulates a vast range of emotions and experiences.

On February 2, the group released their new song “Popmoneyhits.” The single revolves around an internal conflict of deciding what one truly desires. The synth-filled dance track is upbeat and seemingly lighthearted but holds deeper lyrics about the fear of success coming at the cost of integrity while also fearing failure. The song’s essence is captured in Sartino singing, “I want everything and nothing all at once.” The Greeting Committee investigate the line between popstardom, money, and morality.

The accompanying music video for “Popmoneyhits” shows an irritated Addie Sartino at the head of a table surrounded by self-centered people. Her dinner guests cut up, and she eats dollar bills in between kisses and egocentric conversation. The guests switch between humans and mannequins as a representation of her fears for how money can affect her integrity, further expressing a sarcastic outlook on success and money.
