Queers for Q Part II: A Night of Trans and Queer Joy Coming to Town Hall Collaborative April 21, 2023

Queers for Q Part II

Queers for Q is back for part two this April. In the months since the attack on Club Q in Colorado Springs, the call for advocacy and mutual aid for survivors and victims’ families is more prevalent than ever. While outside organizations allegedly hold more than $2 million in donations meant for victims’ families and survivors, those impacted still have housing, medical bills, gender-affirming care/clothing, pet care, and therapy expenses. This latest call to action is organized by local nonprofit Bread and Roses Legal Center, a queer and trans-led social justice legal center operating out of Denver.

Queers for Q Part II is a night of trans and queer joy happening at Town Hall Collaborative on April 21. This evening of community celebration and mutual aid will include a family-friendly drag queen story hour, food, a silent auction, collective art, drag performances, and a queer dance party. Confirmed performers for this celebration include Venus Victrola and Lala Queen with Melissa Ivey hosting and emceeing the event. While the first Queers for Q event back in November 2022 was a memorial to those involved in the attack on Club Q, this event is a celebration of queer and trans joy and a night of defiance and solidarity.

The first $40,000 of funds raised at the initial Queers for Q event last year has already been disbursed, yet there is a continued need for ongoing support. There are multiple ways to donate to the Queers for Q Mutual Aid Fund. The simplest way to do so is by visiting the Bread and Roses Legal Center website and making a direct donation. Queer-owned and adjacent businesses and organizations can also donate silent auction items to be auctioned off during the Queers for Q Part II fundraiser in April. Accepted silent auction donations include art, gifts, gift certificates, services, getaways, and outings.

Currently, there is also an active call for drag performers, community artists, and other entertainers who are interested in contributing their time toward this cause. Anyone who is interested in collaborating can submit to the Queers for Q call for artists and performers.

The Queers for Q Mutual Aid Fund is confidential and based on trusting the autonomy of survivors to define their own needs. Survivors are provided unrestricted support in cash, gift cards, and the fulfilling of survivor requests. This fund is spent down as proceeds are raised and 100% goes to the survivors and victims’ families. To date, over $140,000 have been distributed to secure transportation, housing, gender-affirming care, service animals, career training, medical care, mental health, travel, and memorials.
