Queer Artists Take Over The Grammys

Kim petras

The Grammys are near, and queer artists were nominated for a lot of awards! Listed are some of the nominees and the hits that got them to this point, from the musical A Strange Loop to the absolute bop that is “Unholy,” here are the nominees.

Steve Lacy is our first one listed with “Bad Habit,” a song from the album Gemini Rights, being nominated for four different awards. Those awards were Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance, as well as Best Progressive R&B Album. Lacy, who is openly bisexual, stole our hearts and viral TikTok fame with that beautiful song about everyone’s favorite fluffy, fanfic trope: mutual pining.

Lesbian singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile was nominated for seven awards. Her album, In These Silent Days, was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Americana Album nominated for Record of the Year. She was also nominated for Best Americana Performance, and her song “You and Me on the Rock” was nominated for Best American Roots Song. The track “Broken Horses” being nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.

Bisexual Brazilian singer Anitta has been nominated for Latin Grammys before, but this year, she has been nominated for Best New Artist. Even though it came out in 2015, Bang will always be a banger.

Of course, this list would be absolutely incomplete if we did not mention Sam Smith and Kim Petras for their single Unholy. This song became a viral trend on TikTok and is still every other TikTok’s audio. This hit was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, with the predecessor award being given to Smith and Petras for being the first trans artists to have a number-one song in the US.

Other nominees not listed are Omar Apollo, Wet Leg, Måneskin, and Kaytranada. Congratulations to all the nominees! We look forward to seeing more queer artists winning!
