Pilobolus Comes to Denver

Pilobolus

Pilobolus, a dance company founded in 1971, quickly made headlines across the world. It has performed in affluent, impressive settings such as Broadway, the Oscars, and the Olympics. This year, Pilobolus hit its 50th anniversary and began their Big Five-Oh! tour across the United States. Throughout 2022 and 2023, Pilobolus is making its way across the country. Its performance brings the states a mind-blowing remix of past-favorite performances such as 1978’s Shizen and 2004’s Megawatt.

Pilobolus is a “rebellious dance company… (that tests) the limits of human physicality to explore the beauty and the power of connected bodies.” They rely solely on their own creativity, with over 120 original pieces that bring to light modern issues and show the diversity that is human life. Members of Pilobolus are strong supporters of organizations such as Black Lives Matter. They believe in teaching others the importance of connection through the human body.  Free lessons are offered via Facebook Live, and those interested can continue to watch the videos if they are unable to make the live session. They also perform at grade schools and host workshops for children of all ages.

Pilobolus will be performing at the June Swaner Gates Concert hall in the University of Denver’s Newman Center from October 14-15 at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices start at $39. They can be purchased at newmancenterpresents.com or by calling (303)871-7720.

The Newman Center

The Newman Center is excited to welcome Pilobolus into their hallowed halls. Founded by Robert and Judi Newman in 2002, it has since been host to over 150 events, as well as approximately 6,300 students and 500 performances per year. They believe in creating a diverse set of artists who are capable of enriching the Colorado community through their many works of art.

Hosted in a beautiful concert hall, The Big Five-Oh! is a performance you won’t want to miss.
