OFM Style: Summer Style

As summer arrives, we all have the urge to show some skin and some of our more fashionable outfits. I mean, it is the season of soaking up the sun, pool parties, and all the above. Summer is the perfect time to experiment with what you are wearing, not to mention, it’s also a great time to discover what you love about your body and what makes you feel good. Speaking of what you want to do this summer, it’s time to have a bit of fun with your wardrobe, in and out of the pool.

Be you at a summer gala or trying something new for the office, it’s a good idea to add some personal touches to your suit or your going-out wear. If you are part of the leather community, you may already know what I am talking about. I am speaking of adding harnesses to your outfits; either under overcoats or just as the finishing touch to a button-up shirt to give yourself some flare and debonair. You can also use a waist harness to create a “bodycon” look for an extra-sultry outfit.

Or, if you are looking for a more avant-garde sort of look, Target recently partnered with up-and-coming names in the fashion industry to release a spring/summer collection before they become the new industry standard. With names like Rixo, Alexis, and Christopher John Rodgers (whom I recently wrote about as a young, Black designer to keep an eye on). They have all placed love and care into the new dress collection that is size-inclusive as well as diverse in the silhouette and structures of the dresses. Not only does it give you a chance to purchase a designer’s work at an affordable price, but it’s a moment in time that will encapsulate life during and after the pandemic.

Even now, you may be thinking of ways to get heads turning while out and about. Well, you’re in luck: being in your favorite swimsuit outside is socially acceptable. Whether you re in a bikini or trunks, your body needs to be kissed by the sun! 

However, if you plan to spend the summer shirtless and skirt-less, may I stress to you the importance of using UV protection! I know, I know, I am not here to harp on you like your mother. Though, I will say that using software during the summer is perfect for keeping your skin golden and your health excellent right now. Designer Tory Burch teamed up with Japanese brand Shiseido to release no-cast sunscreens and designer clutches to be enjoyed on or off the beach. This limited-time collaboration is only available through the summer at Ulta beauty or at Tory Burch stores or Macy’s. This collection’s cute and playful, floral patterns are sure to keep a pep in your step.

One final thought before we go: I would like to remind you that, no matter what you are wearing, your body shape and size, you deserve to enjoy the summer as much as anyone else does. Whether you’re skinny or fat, hairy or smooth, let the sun be your guide this summer, and let loose. Only you can decide when you have had enough. You are so precious, and people want to see you enjoy yourself. Be bold; be brave; be proud, and be you.
