#WeJustNeedToPee

The bathroom selfie has taken a meaning in the transgender community. Using the hashtag #WeJustNeedToPee, a bearded activist has decided to embrace the new bathroom selfie campaign as a protest against US laws that force him to use the women’s facilities.

Michael Hughes, from Minnesota, was inspired by several trans women who posted pictures of themselves next to urinals, and now he is posting pictures of himself next to women doing their makeup and entering stales.

“Do I look like I belong in a women’s bathroom? Republicans are trying to get legislation passed that would put me there, based on my gender at birth. Trans people aren’t going into the bathroom to spy on you, or otherwise cause you harm.”

Around the country, there are a handful of right-wing politicians that want to make it illegal for trans women to use female bathrooms and trans men to use male bathrooms.

The fight (and conversation) began with Brae Carnes, a 23-year-old from Canada, who posted photos of herself in the men’s bathroom to fight discrimination.

The Victoria resident said it is uncomfortable for everyone when she enters a men’s bathroom, and she looks completely out of place applying lipstick and posing for mirror selfies while men urinate in the background.

What do you think? Does it really matter where people pee?
