Netflix to Premiere Gen Z Dark Comedy ‘Do Revenge’

Do Revenge, perhaps the ultimate Gen Z dark comedy, turns the adage “Revenge is a dish best served cold” upside down. The movie promises a vengeful, steamy plot with a cast of some of today’s hottest young stars. Inspired by 90s classic teen revenge movies like Cruel Intentions and 10 Things I Hate About You, Do Revenge takes place in a high school setting.

Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the plot follows Eleanor (Maya Hawke, Stranger Things) and Drea (Camila Mendes, Riverdale) who join forces up to get revenge on their bullies. Drea’s revenge focuses on a boy who leaked their sex tape. Eleanor wants revenge on a girl that outed her by starting a rumor that she forcibly held her down and kissed her. After an unlikely meeting, the two team up to deal with each other’s “dirty laundry.”

For Robinson, one of the main themes of the story is not assigning labels to any one character.

“I think there are different points where everyone is the hero and everyone’s the villain in this story. And that is so much of what growing up is. I wanted to make something that paints with all the colors of adolescence,” she explains.

The movie’s lead protagonists, actors Hawke and Mendes, are joined by Euphoria’s Austin Abrams as Drea’s boyfriend Max, 13 Reasons Why’s Alisha Boe as Drea’s best friend Tara, and Outer Banks’ Jonathan Daviss as Max’s friend Elliot.

Rish Shah, Ava Capri, Maia Reficco, Paris Berelc, and Talia Ryder also star, and Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner makes a special guest appearance. If it seems like every Gen Z actor who has taken the screen by storm is in this movie, that’s because they are—Do Revenge boasts an massively impressive cast lineup.

Do Revenge is quickly becoming one of Netflix’ most anticipated movies. While Netflix has not yet released a trailer, it will be available to stream on the platform starting September 16.
