Lil Nas X Announces Drop of his First Studio Album

Lil Nas X

We’ve watched him mosey down the Old Town Road, grind on a Satanic stripper pole, and give the prison showers one hell of a show. But he wasn’t done there—Lil Nas X is, at long last, releasing his first-ever studio album!

The 22-year-old Industry Baby dropped an epic video announcing his upcoming album to Twitter on August 25. Nas pulled out all the stops: as a lizard-like news reporter for “Montero News Network,” he announces that “power-bottom rapper” Lil Nas X has busted out of jail (see his latest music video if you’re confused).

The camera then cuts to Nas cruising down a desert road in an old-school car, still sporting his hot-pink prison jumpsuit. He gives us a taste of one of the new songs to be featured on his album, singing “need a boy who can cuddle with me all night …” Yeah, we’re already craving more.

He stops at a pay phone, puts the receiver to his ear, then drops through the floor. Rest assured, Nas is a-OK, as he gently descends into a void carried by a rainbow haze. Here, we get the announcement we’ve all been waiting for: Montero, Nas’ first album, is dropping September 17.

Nas couldn’t be more excited to bring his ever-growing legion of fans this gift. After his meteoric rise to fame in 2019 for quirky, cowboy rap “Old Town Road,” Nas took a hiatus to look after himself and his career. But in 2021, he made his official comeback.

The young artist has been riding a hot streak since the release of his highly controversial single “Call Me By Your Name (Montero)” in March. Since then, Nas has continued to boost his music in his trademark style on Twitter and TikTok, later releasing insta-hit “Industry Baby” in July, and now, his first full-length album.

Lil Nas X has also already swept the MTV Video Music Awards, where he’ll not only be performing but also be up for five Moon Men just for his singles earlier this year.

Explaining the album to Rolling Stone, Nas X says: “It’s all connecting to one little world. It’s pretty cohesive. It’s very much straightforward, like, OK, this Montero: This is how I feel about the future, about this past event, about this current thing going, this part of my love life, this part of family, this part of my career, you know? I really wanna let people to get to know Montero. It’s definitely deeper, but it still has its bops.”

Well Nas, I think I speak for all of us when I say we can’t wait to get to know more about you. Oh, and also keep bopping, of course.
