The first openly lesbian chief of staff candidate, Karine Jean-Pierre, has been appointed to serve in Joe Biden’s political campaign. Her duties include VP pick Kamala Harris’ communications, public outreach, and campaign relations.

“Because when bullies try to scare us from pursuing our dreams, we move forward,” Jean-Pierre says in her recently published book, Moving Forward

Jean-Pierre is the former chief of public affairs, senior advisor, a spokesperson for MoveOn.org, a lecturer at Columbia University, an author, and a proud mom. While she was attending college, she explored her Haitian roots, focusing on studies of that region.

She has been active in demanding change from big corporations like Walmart through the Center for Community and Corporate Ethics, and she did extensive work with Obama for America in 2008.

Jean-Pierre tweeted her excitement for her recent success.

This is a historic moment for the LGTBQ and POC communities. Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign is the most intersectional group of political leaders in our time. Jean-Pierre would give LGBTQ community a present role in political discussions.

Angelica Ross, LGBTQ activist, says via twitter, “You are the right choice for this movement. I am with you @KamalaHarris.” She then goes on to discuss justice for Breonna Taylor and holding the VP accountable for her past in prosecution.

Harris’ history as a California prosecutor, district attorney, and attorney general has sparked some controversy. New Now Next shared Angelica Ross’ tweet, “Shea did NOT go easy on her and took her to task on the points and Kamala was open, apologetic & held herself accountable. Let’s do so as well!”

Jean-Pierre posted a video on Facebook: “Three years ago, Trump tried to shut the door on the progress we have made. Here’s how we fight back, by moving forward.” The Biden/Harris Campaign has already made political history in the U.S.
