Hypocritical Anti-LGBTQ+ Congresswoman Lauren Boebert Caught Fondling Owner of Queer-Friendly Bar

Lauren Boebert

Anti-LGBTQ+ politician and representative for Colorado’s third congressional district, Lauren Boebert, has gotten herself in a lot of hot water lately. The conservative firebrand was ejected from a family-friendly performance of the Beetlejuice musical at the Buell Theater in Denver on September 10.

Initial reports from outlets like the Associated Press said that the Republican was vaping, talking loudly, and causing a disturbance, which allowed Boebert’s political opponents a brief moment of schadenfreude at her misfortune. That is, until video surfaced of the incident, which showed that Boebert and her companion, Quinn Gallagher, were groping each other in the theater, with Gallagher squeezing Boebert’s breasts and Bobert placing her hand on Gallagher’s crotch, escalating the incident into a full-blown scandal.

To be clear, OFM does not condone slut shaming in any form, and anyone, including Boebert, is free to engage in a consensual grope session with whomever they choose to (although, we are generally opposed to Boebert experiencing any sort of happiness whatsoever). But the hypocrisy in this story is too hard to ignore. If she had been simply a “family values” Republican feeling someone up at a family-friendly event, that would have been hypocritical enough, but this goes even further than that as Boebert has a long history of being anti-drag, and Gallagher owns a bar that hosts drag events.

Drag shows are a favorite target for Boebert, even when representing a district in a strongly purple state that is unlikely to institute the types of drag bans seen in the South. In June 2022, she tweeted, “Take your children to CHURCH, not drag bars.” Many of her comments start with the false assumption that drag shows are inherently sexual and, therefore, inappropriate for children.

In June of this year, after a federal judge overturned Tennessee’s drag ban, Boebert tweeted, “This begs the question—Why are people so determined to perform drag shows for kids that they’d go through the trouble of suing for the right? Something is very wrong.” Similarly, in May of this year, after hearing about the US Navy using drag queens for recruitment, the theater-groping politician tweeted, “Do our military leaders understand that China and Russia see this stuff and prepare accordingly?” She similarly recorded a video last December in which she bizarrely accused senators of “sexualizing” children, particularly her children, because a portion of a $1.7 trillion federal spending bill was earmarked for LGBTQ+ programs.

But her companion, Gallagher, seems to be both a staunch liberal and the owner of a bar in Aspen that hosts pro-drag and LGBTQ+ events. In 2019, they advertised on Instagram for their Aspen Gay Ski Week celebration, and in January of this year they advertised on Instagram for “A Winter Wonderland of Burlesque and Drag Show.” And surprisingly, according to the New York Post, the very unlikely pair have been seeing each other for months. According to an anonymous source speaking to the Daily Mail, Gallagher’s family is unlikely to approve of the couple. “It’s very surprising,” the source says. “I always thought Quinn was a cool guy and a Democrat. His parents would be horrified because they are definitely blue.”

According to The Guardian, the congresswoman gave an explanation of the incident in an interview with far-right news outlet One America News, in which she downplayed the severity of the incident. “I was laughing; I was singing, having a fantastic time, was told to kinda settle it down a little bit, which I did, but then, my next slip-up was taking a picture,” she tells OANN, even after the groping video had gone viral. “I was a little too eccentric … I’m on the edge of a lot of things.” Eccentric doesn’t seem like quite the right word.
