Governor Polis Recieves Pro Choice Endorsements

Despite the overturn of Roe v. Wade, some states have kept the right for women and afab individuals to have abortions intact. In Colorado, we have RHEA, or the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which allows afab people and women contraceptives and the right to abortions. Colorado also will not assist other states’ prosecution of reproductive healthcare providers and patients, something that was decided in an executive order. Jared Polis’ opponent, Heidi Ganahl, says that she will rescind the human rights of RHEA if she is elected, but Governor Polis and Lieutenant Governor Primavera will continue to fight for these.

Recently, several organizations, notably Cobalt Colorado, Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado, and the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR),s have endorsed Polis and Primavera. Cobalt Colorado is a non-profit organization dedicated to reproductive rights and abortion access, and Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado is similar in that they too are a nonprofit dedicated to reproductive health and abortion healthcare.

Dusti Gurule, the president and CEO of COLOR’s action fund, had this to say about Governor Polis and Lieutenant Governor Primavera:

As the only political Reproductive Justice organization in Colorado, COLOR AF carries an immense responsibility to ensure that the voices of the Latino/a community are centered and heard from our elected officials. We just released the 2022 Colorado Latino Policy Agenda, co-led with our partner Voces Unidas de las Montañas, and found that support for protecting reproductive health and abortion rights outnumbers support for banning abortion by a margin of three to one, and nearly two-thirds of respondents say that are more likely to vote for a candidate who supports the expansion of abortion and reproductive health access. Governor Polis has shown that he will continue to fight to protect and expand access to abortion and reproductive health care. We look forward to working alongside him in his next term toward that end.”
