Girls In Wonderland: A Sapphic Party

Orlando, Florida, home to world-famous theme parks, is also home to one of the biggest queer women’s parties in Florida, featuring pool parties, comedy shows, and dancing. Girls in Wonderland is a queer women’s event celebrating pride and self-expression, founded in 2000.

This year marks its 23rd anniversary, and for all that time, they’ve been creating some of the hottest LGBTQ+ festivals in the U.S. Each year, the event brings more than 10,000 attendees from around the world. This year will be no different with their effort to bring in entertainment and fun, featuring international artists such as  Snow Tha Product, Chloe Star, Gabby B, Rose Garcia, Citizen Jane, DJ Tatiana, and more, and promising a good time for everyone in attendance. Amy Alonso, Alison Burgos, and Yesenia Leon are all behind these LGBTQ+ events as operators of a company called Pandora Events, which has been around since 1998 and is based in South Beach, Florida.

Florida has been at the center of the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ rights within the past few years with laws such as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill passing and disrupting queer life. However, there is also a strong culture of queerness in the state that cannot be silenced. These festivals challenge these laws with their yearly parties and celebration of queer love.

Girls in Wonderland and Pandora Events use these massive parties to donate to LGBTQ causes such as; National Center for Lesbian Rights, Kindred Pride, the Aqua Foundation for Women, as well as HRC, Care Resource, NVEEE, and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Each year the company donates at least $30,000 to these organizations that battle for LGBTQ rights.
