Gay teacher fired after sex tape is posted on school website

A gay high school teacher in Little Rock, Arkansas was just fired from his job after a hacker broke into his computer, stole his sex tape, and posted it to the school’s website.

Brian Cody Bray, 29, was fired from his job at Maumelle Charter High School after the administration learned the video, which depicted Bray and another man having consensual sex, had been made available to students, teachers and faculty. Bray heard second-hand from another teacher, who phoned him while Bray was taking a sick-day from work.

“Pretty much immediately after that phone call I went to the bathroom and threw up,” Bray told theWashington Blade. “I was just in shock that oh my God, this is something that will impact my career, impact my life and what am I going to do?”

Although he attempted to explain to the school’s principal and the executive director of the school district how the crime had been committed, that his email, DropBox and other accounts had been compromised, they didn’t budge.

They didn’t even budge when he explained that his album appropriately labeled “Private” was changed to “FagTeachBray” by the hacker, making this a clear sign of a hate crime. Anonymous texts were sent to a student whose number was stored on Bray’s computer directing the student to the school website where the video was posted, according to the report. Bray posted screen shots of the text messages on a website he set up to explain the cybercrime.

“Of course I had to be dismissed at the time because I had lost any kind of authority with my students there,” Bray said.

But, in a classic form of victim blaming, the school is holding Bray accountable for the release of the video. School officials went so far as to file an ethics complaint against him with the Arkansas Professional Licensure Standards Board, which could have seen his teaching license revoked. The board dismissed the case because of insufficient evidence.
