Hamilton’s Denver Leg Postponed Due to COVID-19

Hamilton

Despite the excitement around the show’s return, Hamilton’s Denver leg has been postponed due to COVID-19.

Marquee signs wait empty and dark. Costumes hang in garment bags and are left in quiet dressing rooms to gather dust.

Dancers don’t dance; their feet stay quiet. Technicians close their callbooks and turn off their headsets. Cast members sigh when reminders for rehearsals and dance calls pass over their screens unacknowledged. Stages and venues are lit by singular light bulbs to allow the theatre ghosts their chance to perform while our community’s theatrical storytellers are home.

Artists everywhere are lamenting their losses due to the global effects of the COVID-19 virus. Regulations on gathering sizes, as well as new research regarding the risks for performance attendees and performers alike, have caused the theatre world to come to a complete standstill.

It’s not only our local theatre scene that’s being affected. Due to concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Denver Performing Arts Center have decided to postpone the performances of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton in an effort to protect audience members, technicians, and performers from the risks associated with the virus.

Though the show’s presence in Denver’s Buell Theatre August 12 through October 4 has officially been canceled, an email sent Thursday, March 14 to DPAC’s subscribers and supporters gives definitive hope for Denver’s Hamilfans.

“We are actively working to secure alternate dates and look forward to making that exciting announcement once details are finalized.”

The letter closes with a reiteration of the Denver Center’s commitment to planning for the eventual future when our community can once again gather in appreciation for theatre and those who contribute their time and talents to bringing such stories to life.

While no official announcement has been made regarding new dates for the return of America’s “Ten dollar, founding father…” to Denver’s historic Buell Theatre, it is clear that the public’s health and safety are of the utmost importance in the eyes of DPAC when considering their next steps in these uncertain times.
