Envision:You Receives Grant For Peer Support Program

Envision:You, the Colorado-based initiative focused on supporting LGBTQ+ individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from The Colorado Health Foundation. The grant will be directed towards creating a peer support program for those who identify as LGBTQ+ and live in rural areas across Colorado.

“Individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community often feel invisible in rural areas where there is a major lack of culturally relevant behavioral health services. Peer support is a proven protective factor that will improve mental health outcomes and reduce the risk of suicide for LGBTQ+ individuals living in rural communities,” says Steven Haden, CEO and co-founder of Envision:You.

The new program will hold workshops in southwest and southeast Colorado and include 24 modules with goals of providing resources, coping strategies, and positive social environments.

Envision:You has launched initiatives in the past with objectives of helping LGBTQ+ people to access better clinical care in the face of biases and discrimination. Last May, the non-profit launched a telehealth program for LGBTQ+ people struggling with mental health due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In December of 2020, Envision:You worked to reduce mental health stigma and encourage open conversation with loved ones with their “How to Have the Talk” campaign.

Now, with the support of The Colorado Health Foundation, LGBTQ+ people will be able to benefit from peer support programs in areas that are all too often left without proper resources or comprehensive care services.

“The Colorado Health Foundation is excited to partner with Envision:You as they create a peer support program to serve the LGBTQ+ community living in rural Colorado,” said program officer Dustin Moyer of The Colorado Health Foundation. “We are confident their work will help to advance health equity in the state.”
