End of an Era: Denver’s Midtowne Spa Up For Sale

Midtowne Spa

Like many businesses in Denver and across the country, Midtowne Spa has had its shares of ups-and-downs due to the COVID-19 pandemic. OFM caught up with General Manager Jim Clarke last summer, as the business was getting ready to reopen their Denver location, though rumors have circulated recently that the business is for sale.

We’ve learned through Clarke that indeed, the rumors are true.

“A lot of you have probably heard the rumor that Midtowne Spa Denver is closing—it’s not quite true … yet,” Clarke tells OFM in an email statement. “The building is up for sale, but no sale has happened yet. We also do not know if a potential buyer would want to keep the spa here or not. So, the rumor that we are closing at the end of the month (January) is not true. We do not know when we are closing.”

Midtowne Spa is known for its popular parties, like its masked Panorama Party, its second spa location in Los Angeles, and as one of the predominant gay mens’ clubs in Denver, especially since the closing of their main competition, Denver Swim Club. Clarke mentioned last year that Denver Swim Club had attempted to open up in the middle of the pandemic, but the Denver Department of Public Health had to close them down.

“I guess they decided it was too much for them, so they closed,” Clarke said, referencing Denver Swim Club.

Midtowne Spa initially closed their doors due to COVID-19 on March 15, 2020. After receiving notice in May 2020 that they would be allowed to reopen, under the pretense of verifying vaccination statuses in spa-goers’ profiles before they are allowed inside, Midtowne Spa reopened June 4, 2020 with limited hours.

When OFM spoke to Clarke last summer, he voiced his expectations that a lot would shift in the coming months, looking forward to building staff back up and welcoming in returning customers.
