Denver’s ‘GoGo for the Gold’ Star Randy Boo on Repping the Mile High City

He’s been known to move his hips like Shakira and shake his peach like Beyoncé; Denver musical artist and go-go dancer Randy Boo made a lasting impression on OUTtv’s new reality competition series, GoGo for the Gold.

Created by Hey Qween host Jonny McGovern and his bestie, go-go veteran and OnlyFans star Greg McKeon, they are on the hunt for “America’s #1 Champion Go-Go Superstar Star.” Unfortunately, the Hey Qween dancer alum was eliminated on the second episode, which challenged the contestants to dance as sexy as they can on a very tiny box. Obviously disappointed, Randy left in good spirits and proud of what he accomplished.

“We are all one being,” he says during his exit commentary. “The soul that’s in me is in all of you. We’re all the same. We’re one.”

OFM caught up with Randy to talk more about the show and his love of go-go dancing and music.

Can you begin by telling us who Randy Boo is and what he’s all about?

Randy Boo originated from the go-go dancing world. It kind of opened up a lot of opportunities for me to be able to do other things, more than just go-go dancing. I got to meet people that wanted to shoot me for modeling, people who wanted to use me for acting—all different kinds of projects. It all started from go-go dancing.

What can one always expect from a Randy Boo performance?

One can always be blown away by the musicality and how everything just flows out naturally.

How excited were you to compete on Go Go for the Gold, and what have you taken away from this experience?

I was very excited, but it was very challenging. From this experience, I was able to really get to know and find my strength. This made me stronger, and it pushed me to not give up and keep doing what I’m doing.

What initially inspired you to audition?

Since I’ve been go-go dancing for at least over 10 years, I figured, why not? Jonny, of course, helped me out, and it’s been amazing working with him. So, I decided to go for it and audition.

How does it feel to know that you represented Denver on the show?

That’s kind of tough because I’m now dealing against Yvie Oddly and Willow Pill when it comes to representing Denver on TV (laughs). Those are big names to go against, so I just did my best.

What is the world of go-go boys like in the Mile High City? Is it as cutthroat as other major cities?

To be honest, I think they’re all the same in major cities because it’s nightlife. People get drunk; they get fucked up, and it can sometimes be stressful for anybody. Anybody can be cutthroat. It might not be intentional, but it just comes up.

How did you fall into the world of go-go dancing?

I think it was really more about trying to overcome my fear of not being able to dance in front of people in my underwear. My friends were like, “You’ve got to try it at least once and see how it goes. See if you like it.” So, I tried it, and I had a lot of fun. It’s fun shaking my butt in underwear and getting money!

Is there a certain club or bar in Denver where you dance at the most?

I usually dance the most at Tracks Denver.

Do you believe go-go boys don’t receive the recognition they deserve?

Yes and no. I feel like we do get recognition in-person when we’re out and actually go-going. We get recognition from gays, girls, straight people, whatever, and also media, but I think it’s up to us on how and where we can get bookings.

You are also pursuing a music career, is that correct?

Yes. I’ve always been in tune with music. I don’t know how or why, but somehow, I ended up with the first openly gay boy band, Echo V, and we were together for at least three to four years. We got to perform all over the West Coast, and even Vegas. We got to open for Jussie Smollet, Dev, and Todrick Hall, and it was a lot of fun. After the band decided to break up and go our own separate ways, I decided to continue doing music, so I’m now doing my own solo music. I love it because there’s nobody telling me what to do with my music. With a band, it was like, you have to do things this or that way. It was insane (laughs).

How would you describe your musical style and aesthetic?

To be honest, I have a hard time putting my music into genres. It’s just whatever feels and sounds right to me. Like, if I have an emotion inside of me and I feel like I need to release it or let it out, I will make it into a song, and that helps me feel better.

Do you have any music projects you’re currently working on?

Yes. It’s a nonstop project because I just enjoy creating. So, every time I release a song, I will most likely have three other songs that I’m working on in the back or sitting there waiting to be finalized. I have plenty of music sitting around that’s never been heard before, so it’s kind of a process: one at a time until I’m confident enough for an album.

What are some future goals you hope to achieve with your career?

Right now, I think I’m leaning more towards music because I really understand the power of music and how we can connect everyone who is listening to it. They would actually understand the message that you’re trying to portray. I would like to help improve the world, and I want to make music that will inspire people or change their mind on certain things whenever they’re feeling down. I want them to feel love through music.

Before we wrap up, are there any other upcoming projects or anything else you would like to mention or plug?

Yes! I am performing and opening for two major Filipino celebrities, Luke Mejares and Nina Giarado, who are going to be here in Denver on June 12 at the King Center. You can also expect more performances at Tracks!
