Danny Will Die Alone: Gay Comedy Show Set to Release May 16

A gay comedy exploring the hellscape of dating as a gay man in 2024, Danny Will Die Alone is set to air on the streaming service Dekkoo on Thursday, May 16.

Dekkoo is a streaming services dedicated to gay men, providing steamy content that offers intimate portrayals of men loving men (having everything from lovey-dovey to more rough and rowdy depictions). With such a limited pool of options for LGBTQ+ folks looking for affirming media (not to mention that issues faced by queer writers and producers in the film industry), this streaming service aims to offer viewers content that caters to their needs.

Created by and starring Jack Tracy, a New York-based writer, actor, producer, and recording artist, Danny Will Die Alone charters the territory of modern dating and the effect dating apps have in the gay community.

Loosely based on his own dating life in New York and his podcast “Dying Alone Together,” the nine-episode series follows Danny (Tracy) out of a fresh break up and fresh into a mid-life crisis, and his journey into a dating scene that is vastly different than when he was last in the market.

Tracey says about the show’s focus on the culture of online dating, “On the apps, you’re never quite sure if the man you are speaking with is looking for something real or if he simply enjoys the chase.”

The world of Grindr has much to offer, but the negative repercussions can leave those looking for long-term commitment on unstable ground and still horny for love. Aging also weaves its way into dating culture; getting older comes with a new set of expectations, roles, and ideas in romance. Add aging and new technologies to the mix, and we’re left with the comical, challenging, and charming queer dating structure of today.

Tracey says, “It’s as if long term relationships and traditional dating structures have been abandoned by men in their 20s and 30s. Once you get into the 40s, it’s a whole other macrocosm of messiness; mostly married couples who have opened their relationships and are looking for a temporary third to complete their throuple.”

In the trailer, Danny meets hipsters, conservatives, spiritual beings, gym gurus, and men with all kinds of kinky sexual proclivities. He explores the dating world of today with a jaw-droppingly vulgar humor sure to leave audiences primed for more.

While no circumstance is an one-size-fits-all, dating as an aging person (especially those in the LGBTQ+ community) has an unique set of challenges. And Danny Will Die Alone may be the perfect upcoming remedy (or distraction) to friction in our dating apps and finding “the one.”
