Come Celebrate Queerness with Engender 2022: A Community Gala

Engender

In the spirit of creation, celebration, and collective healing, Queer Asterisk is inviting its community and allied supporters to come together on Thursday, October 13 for Engender: A Living Lineage, its third annual virtual gala.

Tune in live at 5:45 p.m. for the LGBTQ+ Colorado History pre-show, and at 6 p.m. for the main event. Anyone interested in queer culture and wellness is welcome.  It’s free to attend;  you just need to register by October 12 at queerasterisk.com/engender.

The event features spoken word performances by local queer artists Chris Aguilar-Garcia and Ash Ruiz, plus video art honoring queer ancestors, an interactive ceremony that invites all participants to join, and more… all dedicated to the powerful affirmation that gender and sexual diversity has always existed, and that we will remain here. We are a living lineage.

Queer and Trans-Led Mental Health Center

Queer Asterisk is a Colorado nonprofit organization, guided by queer and transgender leadership and rooted in community. Their practice is dedicated to the exploration and transformation of identity, relationships, and emotional experience within the context of a shifting society. Through outpatient counseling services, peer mentorship, community programs, and educational training, Queer Asterisk works to improve the mental health and safety of 2SLGBTQ+ youth, adults, and families in Colorado.

Queer Asterisk envisions a vibrant community that embraces authentic expression, where individuals with dynamic and intersecting identities can thrive. The team is comprised of practitioners with diverse lived experiences, including folks who are Latinx, Black, white, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Indigenous, Asian, Mixed Race, neurodivergent, able-bodied, disabled, chronically ill, queer, trans, nonbinary, two-spirit, poly and more, reflecting the diversity within the communities who seek counseling services.

For anyone seeking belonging and a safe space to heal, learn, grow, and transform, Queer Asterisk strives to be a place of welcome.

A Unique Fundraising Event

Queer Asterisk is raising money to support affordable therapy for 2SLGBTQ+ youth, adults, and families. Donations generated at the event will strengthen the foundation of our community and support growth, so that more and more people can access high quality, affirming mental health care. If this is a cause you care about, register for the event to learn more about how you can get involved and to celebrate queer lineage in a community of people who are dedicated to providing safe spaces.

As a nonprofit organization, Queer Asterisk is dedicated to serving the needs of our community, with the support of all those who agree that our existence, our contributions to society, and our well-being matters. While we are fortunate to have several great options for affirming mental health services in Colorado, it is unique in providing expert counseling that is also financially accessible. The team at Queer Asterisk accepts all major insurance, including Medicaid, and they also offer sliding-scale and pro bono services. Your participation in the Engender gala directly supports our mission.
