Coffee at The Point Temporarily Closes in Five Points

Coffee at The Point

The Denver coffee shop Coffee at The Point has closed starting July 31 with the intention of reopening on September 13.

(While Denverites in Five Points and beyond will surely miss the quaint coffee shop in its short-lived absence, the OFM staff is especially bummed, as it’s one of the closest coffee shops to the office and a frequent meeting spot!)

Coffee at The Point is a celebrated small business in Denver, having been recognized with numerous awards including Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year (2018), Denver’s A-List Winner & Runner-up (2018, 2017, 2014, 2013, 2012), and Top 5 America’s Best (Coffee Fest 2015).

On November 13, the shop will celebrate 13 years of community service throughout which Owner Ryan D. Cobbins, has “been on-call 24/7, 365, throughout this duration,” with the exception of Christmases and the occasional Thanksgiving.

Like many businesses across the country, Coffee at The Point has been hit hard by both the pandemic and the current labor crisis.

According to Cobbins, the shop has struggled under the rising cost of labor and increase in prices from vendors from inflation. Cobbins also spoke about how a lack of oversight on his part allowed a decrease in the work quality and cleanliness. Along with those issues, the shop was sued, along with several other businesses and individuals in the neighborhood, last year. This is a part of a long-standing issue that has decimated the Five Points neighborhood and increased the strain on the shop.

As a result of the circumstances, Cobbins made the difficult decision to temporarily close Coffee at The Point in order to readjust and provide the best for their customers and staff going forward. Cobbins has provided his email, ryan@coffeeatthepoint.com, so those with critiques, complaints, or suggestions can reach out to him directly.

We wish Coffee at The Point all the best while we anxiously await the reopening!
