Amyl Nitrate Market Projected to Surge

Amyl Nitrate

A new study shows a surge in the market for amyl nitrate – known recreationally as poppers.

Released in 2024, the study shows that the revenue for poppers is expected to increase from USD $147.5 million in 2021 to USD $309.9 million by 2030.

Amyl nitrate is used in healthcare settings as a treatment intervention for cardiovascular related issues such as heart disease, arrhythmia, and high blood pressure. In these situations, the drug is used to stimulate the dilation of blood vessels.

Recreationally, amyl nitrate is used as both a sexual enhancer and a party drug. Though typically associated with the gay community, it has become more of a widespread party drug in recent years.

The drug is frequently used in a sexual context, as it relaxes the muscles and gives the user a brief but heightened sense of euphoria. When used in this context, it is frequently associated with male-on-male sexual contact.

Poppers have been in use in the LGBTQ kink and party scene since the 1970s. It is frequently used within club and rave scenes, as the brief high is amplified by situational aspects such as loud music and crowds.

The study shows that both the increased use in the medical field due to the prevalence of cardiovascular issues and the increased use for recreational purposes in the LGBTQ community will lead to the projected surge in the market by 2030.

Amyl nitrate is currently illegal to sell as a recreational drug in the United States, but legal to sell using other labels. The United Kingdom completely rendered the drug illegal, though other alternatives are available. Other countries have relatively similar laws in relation to amyl nitrate and its uses.

The study also projected that Latin America will most likely experience the largest Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) for amyl nitrate, both for medical and recreational reasons.
